New Year – New (or improved) You

By SBOISVERT September 28, 2025

While I don’t love the idea of New Year’s Resolutions, I do love the idea of fresh starts, making goals, and making new investments in myself.

The reason I don’t love the idea of New Year’s is because as far as I’m concerned, every month, week, day, heck, hour! Is a chance for a new beginning so I find it somewhat wasteful that there are people who think they need to wait until the arbitrary January 1 date to get started! Hal Elrod, author of The Miracle Morning, had recently done a post talking about how and why it’s important to start your resolutions before this date – if you have a few minutes you should check it out – it’s a great concept!

This year I’ve decided to focus on a few things; one of them is to blog weekly – for the whole year! While this is somewhat of a daunting task for me, I’m confident I can do it and have already put steps in place to help ensure success. These steps are things like having a content list that is already set to get me through three months of the year and by then I will ideally have enough to get me through at least another three months. Additionally, I’ve made a point of devoting time each week to write these blog posts so that saying; “I didn’t have time” is never a valid excuse.

Another thing I am going to be focusing on is investing more in me. For me, this comes in many ways. Last year I worked with a health coach, but really to me she was more of a life coach as her philosophy is all about intuitive eating, and more so for me, intuitive living. I learned a lot about the importance of creating a life that is fulfilling, that keeps you happy more often than not, about creating experiences that make you smile, laugh, love and just fill you up with so much joy. This is a journey that I will continue on this year as I work harder to create the life that I want.

Another big focus for me this year in terms of investing in myself is through education. Most people that know me or that I’ve spoken to know that this doesn’t just mean traditional forms of education. Yes, I’m working on a designation and a degree that are both more traditional forms of education, but I really want to do more learning because of the passion I have for it. Be it through books, seminars (whether webinars or face to face; 30 minutes or 3 days), I just want to take in as much as I can.

I think it’s important to remember that whenever you are learning, whatever the form of your learning may be, that you don’t have to always agree with all or any of what you are taking in. I pick books or seminars that are on topics of interest to me, but often times the author or concept is not one that I necessarily subscribe to. I do, however, love the idea that it is a different perspective and I can use that to potentially change how I see things, or at least learn how others do.

In this first post of the year, I really want to encourage everyone to make some type of investment in themselves, big or small. Maybe this is buying a new book, looking up a seminar you’d like to attend, or finding a free webinar on-line about a topic you are passionate about.

Take a moment to think about what you would like to do, or how you would like to invest in you this year.

I’ll go first. I’ve just downloaded two new books (The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko). I know that going back to work this week, traffic will pick up again, and having these audiobooks on hand are a great investment in my happiness (since they will help with the stress of rush hour traffic) and in my overall knowledge and understanding for these two topics. Not going to lie, I’m REALLY stoke about both of them!

So, in the comments below – tell me, what are you going to do to invest in you? I can’t wait to hear everyone’s ideas!
